Vietnam continues to attract international entrepreneurs because of its strong economic growth and expanding business opportunities. If you’re planning to set up or manage a business in Vietnam, here’s a practical guide to help you understand the Vietnam entrepreneur visa and how to apply for one.

What is the Vietnam entrepreneur visa?

The entrepreneur visa falls under the DN visa category. It’s designed for foreigners who are working with Vietnamese businesses or conducting business activities through a registered entity in the country. The visa is valid for up to 12 months and comes in two types:

  • DN1 for foreigners working with licensed companies in Vietnam
  • DN2 for those providing services or establishing a commercial presence. It also applies if you’re working under international agreements involving Vietnam.

If your stay in Vietnam exceeds three months and you intend to work, you’ll also need a work permit and a temporary residence card (TRC). The work permit application should be submitted at least 30 days before your employment begins, and it can be valid for up to two years.

What do you need for your application?

The basic requirements for a Vietnam entrepreneur visa are similar to those for a tourist visa, including a passport valid for at least 6 months and a completed application form with appropriate passport-size photos.

But you will also need a sponsorship letter to apply for a Vietnam entrepreneur visa. This letter must come from a licensed company or organization in Vietnam and be signed by an authorized representative. It should clearly explain three things: the purpose of your business visit, your relationship with the sponsor, and how long you plan to stay in the country.

Additional documents to prepare

Additional documentation may be required for your Vietnam entrepreneur visa application, depending on your background and the nature of your business:

  • You may need to provide a copy of your sponsor’s tax code or business license to confirm the company operates legally and complies with local tax obligations.
  • You may be asked for a business registration certificate that verifies that the inviting company is registered and permitted to conduct business in Vietnam. It reinforces the credibility of your business activities and is especially important when applying for a business eVisa.
  • You may also be asked to show documentation of past business interactions with your sponsor. This can include contracts or correspondence that demonstrate an existing partnership or commercial connection.
  • In some cases, you may be asked to provide financial statements to confirm the financial stability of either yourself or the sponsoring company. These documents help demonstrate that your planned business activities in Vietnam are feasible and that you have sufficient funds to support your stay.
